AGORA RUINS

Kızlarağası Inn

It is the largest and most magnificent of the inns in Izmir. Not only does it have a monumental feature, but being the only example in terms of its architectural feature gives it originality among the Ottoman inns. It was built a few meters from the west side of the Hisar Mosque, which was built by Yakup Bey in 1598 and is the largest mosque in Izmir today. This section forms the eastern side of the inn. The western façade is opposite the Halim Ağa market, on the old Keresteciler street, today's 871st street. The inn, which was once built by the sea, remained about 200 meters away from the beach due to the sea filling up over time.

ARCHEOLOGY AND ETHNOGRAPHY MUSEUM

The museum, which was opened to visitors in 1927 in the Aya Vukla (Gözlü) Church, has been serving in the modern museum building in Bahribaba Park in Konak since 1984. Bayraklı (Smyrna), Ephesus The findings, unearthed during excavations in various regions of the Aegean Region such as Pergamon, Miletus, Klazomenai, Teos and Iasos, and shedding light on the history of Western Anatolia, are exhibited in the museum and in the museum garden. The three-storey museum building has exhibition halls on the second and third floors, administrative sections on the first floor, and administrative sections on the ground floor. There are artifact warehouses, a restoration laboratory and a library where all artifacts are preserved and stored in separate categories. The museum was first established in 1924 in the abandoned Aya Vukla Church in the Basmane district, under the name "Asar-ı Antika Museum".It was opened to the public in 1927 after three years of collecting and compiling works.

İZMİR CLOCK TOWER

The Clock Tower, located in Konak Square and the symbol of Izmir, was built in 1901 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne of the Ottoman Sultan, Sultan Abdulhamid II; It was built by a commission consisting of Izmir Governor Kıbrıslı Kamil Pasha, Naval Governor Said Pasha and Mayor Eşref Pasha. This building is 25 meters high, has four floors and has an octagonal plan. Its platform is made of white marble and other structures; It is made of cut stone. The columns carry the North African theme. The clock of the tower was given as a gift by German Emperor Wilhelm II. The exterior of the Clock Tower has diamond reliefs and 4 75 cm. A worldwide clock has been added.

It is an elevator tower that houses two elevators between Mithatpaşa Street and Nihat Bey Street. Due to the 50 meter elevation difference between the streets, the historical elevator, which can be climbed with 155 steps between the districts and to facilitate transportation, was built by the Jewish businessman "Nesim Levi" in 1907. The elevator tower has 3 floors. The lower floor of the elevator in World War I; Casino – middle floor; Photography room – upper floor; It was used as a cinema. The elevator was rented to various people over time. It was sold to Şerif Remzi Reyent in 1942. He is the businessman who introduced figs to the world. Since a dispute arose between Izmir Municipality and Şerif Remzi Reyent in 1960, the elevator was closed and continued to be used as a warehouse. Şerif Remzi Reyent passed away in 1973 and the elevator was left abandoned to its fate.
